Summer 2024
Greetings to all & welcome to this very very occasional newsletter. Please excuse any typos and gremlins in this DIY fest, the cat has taken up residence on the keyboard, and is typing at will.
I've been happily buried in the studio working, immersed in more ways than one – in life and work. Since 2017 I've been attempting to paint the sea – a long on-going project rooted in my daily Atlantic swims. I am showing new work from this series for the first time, in the context of a large group show "The Sligo Wave" at The Model - (31st May-7th Sept 2024) which looks at the strong association in Irish painting with Sligo – from Jack Yeats to the present day. It includes three new SEA pieces and two other historic works of mine. There is a strong line up of the young, the old and the dead! Very much worth a summer visit to Sligo. Check More info after 31st May.
To help fund large less commercial aspects of this work, and extend the long gestation period it seems to require me to take on a new subject - nearly eight years so far. I am launching through my website a small, direct and evolving STUDIO SALE of selected original smaller works on paper of a size it is easy to ship worldwide by post. Initially focusing on the SEA (Part 1) , and a few pieces from SANCTUARY (2019-24)– other small works will also be made available over time.
Meanwhile in Cork a last chance to see the show "A Matter of Time" wonderfully curated by Dawn Williams at the Crawford Gallery as it is coming to a close on June 3rd. It includes an important piece for me; "Branching and fragmenting: Tikkun Olam" (2019-20) acquired for the National Collection by the Crawford Gallery from the series Still Nature shown at Art Space Gallery, London
The portrait "PH-Head"(2022) was one of four piece acquired by the The National Gallery of Ireland from the joint exhibition with Patrick Hall Sanctuary (July 2022) at Hillsboro Fine Art, and is currently on display in the Portrait Galleries. At The National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin. A few related small works are included in the STUDIO SALE ONLINE
In June three un-exhibited works go to Beijing with Sligo's Hamilton Gallery continuing celebrating WB Yeats day with the work of 22 artist addressing the poem Lapiz Lazuli .
And Last but not least, for those in the North West over the summer a newly re-worked painting, originally from STILL NATURE is on show in Boyle Arts Festival 17th-27th July 2024. Festival news will follow: N https://www.boylearts.com/

Best regards to all in very challenging times across our world.
